my idea of beautiful
Tuesday, December 20, 2011

I asked her, “Could we kiss for a little bit?”
“Excuse me,” she said, although, on the other hand, she didn’t pull her head back.
I told her, “Humans are the only animal that blushes, laughs, has religion, wages war, and kisses with lips. So in a way, the more you kiss with lips, the more human you are.”
I have to admit that most of the time, just mere quotes from a certain thing could drag me to invest time in it. It doesn't necessarily have to be a passage, such as this one, but sometimes it could just be a sentence, with five or six words. (An example:) I watched Casablanca because I saw a cartoon of a man saying "Here's looking at you, kid" to a woman. I had no idea it was from Casablanca, but I fell in love with those five words that I searched for them online and even though I had not a single clue what Casablanca was about (all I knew is that it's a classic romance film from the 40's), I watched it. And I had no regrets because it is easily one of my favourite films of all time. Same goes with this quote. To be perfectly honest, I expected this book to be about romance. Boy meets girl, boy falls in love... you know the drill. But it wasn't that, at all. It's so much better than that.
Anyway, I got it as a Christmas present from a friend and I'm really really happy that I finally own it. It brings me back to the rainy bus rides while holding this book and watching the tiny beads of rain drops fall to the bottom of the bus window.

Now I'm rereading it on a sunny winter day, so even though the dramatic effect of being in a bus full of strangers and the light tap tap tap of raindrops on the window is no longer there, the same feeling of content and fascination is still there.
I love books. I really do.

**irrelevant side note: the title of this post is actually from the dedication of the book. It states
